Found out about these just yesterday. Mine was also bland, even with au jus. Guess it'll take a Southerner to fix 'em right.

I can't knock Southern cooking...hush puppies, BBQ, you name it. I love it!

But you guys can screw up other regional cuisine. Having drawn butter with steamed crabs is SACRILEGE!! Makes me freakin' psycho!!!

I'm making up a few pasties for tomorrow's dinner, I believe! Had my first pasty at Tapeley Manor, Devon in 2007.

Chuck steak, rutabaga or turnip, carrot, potato, onion and a lump of butter inside. Salt and pepper, of course. Sometimes I cheat and use roll-out pie crust for the pastry, but I'll do it right this time.

I've been wanting to make pasties ever since I had my first good one. I'd probably mix it up a bit, but very close. Making the crust is a PITA, but worth it if you know how to do it. Damn I'm hungry. Soon the Dr. visit will be over and I can go back to eating!

Man, I haven't had a pasty in years. That sounds damn good right now.

One of the newer bottle shops here in Portland, Saraveza, is also a pasty shop. Great beer, and tasty pasties? Sign me up!
