Default sauerbraten Recipe

Anyone got a good one, I was looking for mine and can't find it anywhere and im starting to crave some.

Since I gave up eating red meat, there are only three things I truly miss: filet mignon, philly cheesesteaks, and well made sauerbraten.

Schwiegermutters Sauerbraten
  • Man nehme:
  • 1 kg Fohlen- oder Rindfleisch Beize
  • 2 kleingeschnittene Zwiebel
  • 6 Pfefferköner
  • 3 Nelkenpfeffer (Piment)
  • 2 Lorbeerblütter
  • 1/4 Liter Kräuteressig
  • 3/4 Liter Wasser
  • Salz
  • Brotrinde
  • Honig- oder Lebkuchen
  • evtl. Brühe
Das Fleisch waschen, abtrocknen, in Glas- oder Porzellanschüssel legen.
Die festen Zutaten der Beize dazugeben, Wasser und Essig dar�bergie�en und zugedeckt ca. 4 - 6 Tage kalt stellen,
täglich wenden. Dann Fleisch abtrocknen und von allen Seiten schön braun anbraten und mit Salz bestreuen.
Dann mit dem Kräutersud abläschen, ein Stück Brotrinde, etwas Honig- oder Lebkuchen hinzufügen und nach und nach mit Wasser oder Brühe auffüllen.
Nach ca. 1.1/2 Stunden Fleisch herausnehmen, Soße abschmecken und andicken. Guten Appetit wünscht

Damn and I thought I could forget all my German, after getting through German 4... Might take me a second to get through that, I see some foreign words.

Edwort, you can't use a metal bowl? Does it react or something? I don't think I have a big glass or porcelain bowl.

A ziplock bag will work. No reactive containers.

I got all excited when I saw that you posted here after I did, Ed. I hoped that you were providing the German to English translation for those of us who forget our 7th grade German. Also, it was not to be.
