Default Foodie Challenge! What is passedpawn making?

This is the first of 3 pictures. No hints yet. Don't worry, though, they are coming. Why is it yellow, and what are those brown things.

Sweet or savory? The brown things look like they might be vanilla beans

A custard in which you're steeping vanilla beans. Ice Cream base or a Creme Caramel or Brulee?

my first thought was a corn meal/polenta...the brown stips could have been roasted chilies...hard to say.

Subtle clues here, but I'll say that the ingredients I showed before haven't been added to the heavy cream in this picture yet.
