Has anyone ever had an issue with wort recirculation only going to the inside of the chiller coil? I am currently building my own whirlpool chiller and am designing it to split the recirculation to go both inside and outside the coil. Any thoughts? Am I wasting my time?

Yes.

The flow in the kettle will be turbulent within the kettle no matter what if you are circulating. Two returns will do nothing but be more complicated to install.

I used to have my return on the outside of the coil but moved to the inside as it seemed to keep the wort moving around better.
