Stir plate help

hey guys....i have zero experience with electronics so the schematics in the diy stir plate thread are greek to me. however i would like to build a stir plate for yeast starters and while browsing ebay i found this:

could this be used for a stir plate?
I was thinking it could be wired to a computer fan which would solve the speed controller issue. i could then glue some magnets on top put it in an enclosure and i have a stir plate. What would i use as a power source and what wiring connection would need to be made?

Search about....someone here has one for sale I'm sure. That's where I got mine. Once you have one in hand, you'll kick yourself for thinking it was complicated.
