I found a guy locally that is building ss stands and I have a few questions. He is building his stands out of 1 1/4 11g stainless. I had some conserns with this and thought 1 1/2 was the recommend size to use. Would 1 1/4 be fine for 10 gal batches? I have included some photos and his asking price is 400.00.

Looks like a nice stand. 11 gauge is still 1/8" thick and that's some beefy steel. $400 is a great price for a SS stand. I would look at the quality of the welds, especially in tight spots, and give it the sit test in the middle. If it supports your weight without any flex, you should be good to go. You may want to ask how much for a center support, but that would be it.

Looks great, and a great price. When I priced out my steel, it would have cost this much just for the materials in SS.

I agree with texasbrewer.. If it were me I'd add a center support on the back, but otherwise no concerns about the 1 1/4". People are doing 10 gallon batches on recycled bedframes, after all.

Beautiful! That seems like a pretty good deal. A lot of people here are using 1-1/2" 16ga or 14ga. Going smaller and thicker to 1-1/4" 11ga should be plenty of beef. Stand on it and see what happens.
