Default $20 pump whirlpooler

Im wondering/trying to figure out how to go about making a pumpless whirlpooler or something to circulate the wort as my IC cools it.

Not sure if there is an efficient way to do this. The best way is to suck the water out the bottom and create a vortex, since a whirlpool will form naturally. The other way is to physically move the water, think spinning paddles. Mythbusters actually tested this in one of their myths. Turns out the paddle method doesn't scale up from a gallon very well. Water is too heavy to move like that.

Right now im just swirling the IC every minute or so to help move the water as its cooling but would really like something to move water around automatically without having to fork out $150 for a pump

I'm looking for some poor ole chap to willing sacrifice his $20 test out http://amzn.com/B004HHW0FU
and let me know if it works well for brewing beer.

You up for it? Seriously though, it looks very usable, albeit slower than a march.

I looked at this and though that 2 liters a minute seemed kinda slow. But it should be good for something. I wonder how far it can lift liquid.

Just note that, that pump is DC powered not AC so the wiring is different.

I might try this with a whirlpooler, i dont need to pump much or fast, just enough to start circulating the water around, nice find ill keep updated if I decide to go that way, have a couple other projects taking priority at the moment (ferm chamber, kegerator, new bed frame, and I know that isnt brew related but girlfriend is complaining about not having one)
