Need help with a power supply for this pump..

I know this is a very simple question, but I just want to make sure I buy the right thing. I need to buy a 12v dc power supply for a topsflo pump like this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Topsflo-15PV-12V-DC-Solar-Power-Hot-Water-Circulation-Pump-/140869592418?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid% 3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27% 26meid%3D3047221230607585797%26pid%3D100033%26prg% 3D1011%26rk%3D2%26sd%3D200839238090%26

Do I just need to buy a power supply that specs at 12v dc at 1.2A exactly? Will a 2A supply work?

You can buy a power supply with a higher amperage rating with no problem. The pump will only draw the current it needs from the power supply. Just be sure the voltage and minimum current rating is ok. It appears to me that a 2 amp 12v power supply will work just fine.

It is quit okay to use a 12V 2A (2 Amp) supply. In fact it is better to have extra current available rather than use a 1.2 Amp supply since the bigger 2A supply will run cooler and arguably be more reliable.

Ok awesome, thanks!

Got a used computer power supply? The 12 vdc power should work just fine for this.

Does it matter if the supply is "switching" or not?

For a pump, it shouldn't matter.

Good luck.

Switched mode or linear mode should be fine. Switched mode is typically more efficient. An old computer power supply may or may not work, some computer power supplies will not operate if say only the 12V is loaded; some of them are funny about wanting load on some of the other voltages as well from being plugged into the motherboard.

What did you end up using? I have a similar pump

I used an old laptop power supply. But there are several cheap ones on ebay as well.
