It only took an afternoon to build.

Looks great, only question on my mind is if there's any risk of setting the top or bottom tier on fire when you turn up your burner?

No chance of that, there isn't a burner!:)

Q for OP, are you going to move your burner or get another one? Just wondering...

edit to add...nvermind-I see the second propane tank, I figure another burner is forthcoming...

I hope not!!! :D

I have seen pics of other wooden 3-tier stands posted here, and folks don't seem to have any issues with brewstand-ignitage. My past three brews I've been using a portable table to support my mash-tun with the boil kettle/burner sitting in roughly the same position it would be on the new wooden stand, and the edge of the table never even got warm. Of course, I'll always monitor it for excess heat, but I don't believe I'll have any problems.

As soon as the budget (SWMBO) will allow, an additional burner will be purchased. Til then, I have to move it.

Looks good, although I don't get why you have it so high! I would have made the distance between 2nd and 1st tier a lot shorter.

I think that is to allow for the addition of the boil pot burner!;)

I plan on making something similar. I might use cement board under the burners.

This is exactly what I have been using for a year now with no problems. wood has treated me very well and I'm sure you're going to be very happy with your new stand.

That's what I was hoping. I considered metal, but the cost is a bit much for my budget. I'd need to get someone to weld it for me, since I don't have much metal-working expertise. Woodworking I can do myself.

Update:

Since I built this last February, I've brewed 2 different Alt-biers, an Oktoberfest, a Cream Ale, a Bavarian Hefe, and a Honey Brown Ale. I absolutely enjoy brewing using my brew-traption. Love the mobility it provides as well as the organizational aspects of it. On the backside (tall end) I have mounted a water filter and hose setup for filling my HLT. I've also mounted several hooks of various sized to store the various hoses, stirrers, tools, etc. that I use during a typical brew session. One of the most useful items I've built.

Thanks for the followup! I'm thinking of doing something similar to this pretty soon. I'm curious how tall you made each tier, and how tall you are. I'm thinking I would start with the height of my carboy on the ground, then do the BK height right above that, then MLT, etc.

My concern would be stirring the mash. It seems like the top of the MLT would be about chest high, making it a bit difficult.

Thanks!

I have been thinking of doing this for a while. I built mine like yours and am also planning on adding a water filter. How has yours worked for you?

looks a lot like my first brewstand i used two burners. no problems with wood burning at all. just had to use a ladder to fill hot liquor tank. thats why i made a single tier, i don't like ladders

This stand is very similar to mine. Instead of using the cement board under the burner, I used mine as a shield between the first and second levels. It is simply screwed into the 2x4 uprights. Another suggestion would be to affix a sheet of 1/4" plywood to one side of the stand. The plywood then provides a place to hang spoons, mash paddles etc when they are not in use.

I'm picking up parts and pieces for my own. Today I bought 2 20" square pieces of scrap stainless steel sheet metal that I'll put under my two burners (Bayou Classic SP10). For 35 bucks I thought the extra "comfort level" with wood and propane burners was worth it. I plan on screwing those to 3/4 inch plywood that I'm going to use for the tops of the tiers and it will give a little extra protection in case of spills and splashes I think *(plus SS just looks cool).

I know you posted this in 2011, but I came across it recently. Do you have a list of the lumber/items needed to build this?
I'm hoping to surprise my husband with this for Father's Day. My Dad is going to build it (I am sure he can figure out what he needs- I'm just trying to make it as simple as possible for him)!
Thanks!!!

notice the barrier I put on mine between the burner and the compartments next to them, this was simply done with a piece of cement backer board wrapped in aluminum and it makes a huge difference. I had to do something as the heat (mostly on the bottom pot) was getting to warm, and I was concerned with the tank being so close.
