NECROMANCY!

Timm, what drill bit and tequnique did you use to drill into the burner ring? Just got my SP50 and planning to use with a keggle. I'd like to do your mod instead of throwing a BBQ grate on top.

Beer is the mind-killer. Beer is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my beer. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see it's path. When the beer has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I just started with a small hole and used 2 more increasingly larger bits to get to the size I needed. They were just regular metal bits, no step bit, nothing out of the ordinary. I did this on two burners with no problems.

Good to know. Thanks.

I don't drill metal often. I would probably have grabbed the biggest bit in the drawer and just had at it. ;P

I'll go slow and step up the bit size a few times.

I used angle iron and bolted 4 pieces into a square that sits on top of my burner to stabilize my keggle.

I used the grill trick. Works well!

I have just purchased this one and tried on Sunday. Me and my buddy thought the keggel on the burner was sturdy.... Well we were wrong as it slipped right off in middle of the process. 8 gallons down the drain. I think I will use the idea of a grill top and some metal clasps....
