I assume this works just as well for a 12oz brown bottle. It might be fun to permanently etch labels on to those bottles.

That looks very cool, but what does it do to the integrity of the glass?
The etching is only at the surface level(much less than sandblasting would do). I have no doubts that it has not weakened the overall structure of the glass.
