Default Making Love Probe Submersible

All i'm waiting on to complete my new brew system is my thermowell from Brewers Hardware. It doesn't look like it's going to be here this weekend and I really want to brew. What can I do to make my love probe (the standard stainless steel option that you can buy along with the controller from dwyer) waterproof so I can just submerse it in the mash until my thermowell gets here? I was thinking about caking on some aquarium silicone around where the cord goes in, then I could just peel it off when the thermowell gets here. Would this work?

I was in your same situation....I hung my SS probe into my mash just enough so that the wires would not submerge. It wasn't easy but it worked until the thermowell arrived.

Good luck!!

So there is no issue with only reading the top inch of water? I guess I just kind of figured it was best to take the temp from the middle of the mash.

What about wrapping it nice and tight with some electrical tape. Would this work for one brew?

please do not wrap it in electrical tape or silicone, there are way too many reasons to list as to why this is a bad idea

Would you mind listing a few of those reasons?

I've seen people put the probe in some small diameter rubber/silicone tubing. There's a pictorial around here somewhere.

Heat shrink tape might work too.
