Default Kegerator Question

Planning to convert my old fridge to a kegerator and have a question. It is a top mount (freezer on top) and I know the fridge temp is controlled by the freezer via valve/flap so my question is this: assuming I want to keep my beer at a reasonable drinking temp, around 45 maybe, will I still be able to keep my freezer at freezing temps for storing ice?
