Hardware store ball valves
Hey all,

Can I use ball valves that I can buy from my local hardware store for use in making my conical? The guys at the store said they were made if cast brass. Will the cast brass leech flavored into my brew if I use it for my racking port? I see everyone uses stainless steel, is that just because they last longer?

You really don't want to use brass for a fermentation vessel. The acidity of the fermenting beer will leach lead out of the brass. Go with stainless, they're not that much more expensive. Check ebay.

For the price of s/s ball valves from Bobby_M or Bargainfittings.com, I would buy from them. Very reasonable.
