Default GE 7.0 Chest Freezer - Working Properly?

With all the keezer builds going on around here, I'm sure a few of you can weigh in on the proper functioning of this thing.

I picked it up at HD a few days ago. When I got it home, I set it up as-is just to make sure it was working properly. When first plugged in, I heard a bubbling-gurgling sound. Even though I kept it level, I unplugged it and let it let it rest for 12 hours.

Plugged it back in, and still heard the gurgling sound, although not as bad.

It's been now plugged in for about 48 hours, and when the compressor kicks on, I still hear a gurgling sound.

Is this normal, or do I have issues? Temps inside are -10F, with the dial set to "4".

I have the GE 7.2CF that I bought new and it does the exact same thing, has always done it from the day I plugged it in. Its been running great for nearly 3 years and I don't suspect its a problem.

You are hearing freon. In the 'old days' they would over fill them and have an "accumulator" so that you wouldn't hear this noise. Now with the laws, price issues, etc... being what they are, they use the least amount of freon they have to.

Thanks! Just wanted to make sure I wasn't burning out my compressor.

And that makes sense, my older chest freezer is completely silent.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but this topic brought to mind a couple questions I have that are similar... I'm going to be starting a keezer build sometime soon, and I was planning on turning the freezer upside down to install the base that I'll be building.... Is this a no-no?

You can turn it upside down to work on it, but you after you right it you should give it 12-24 hours before plugging it back in.
