So if grabbed a freezer a neighbor had put on the curb yesterday. The compressor is blown and i was wondering if i could swap out a smaller Mini Fridge compressor for the blown on. What ive read is that the on that is blown should be about 1/2 to 1 hp compressor and a mini fridge is 1/4 to 1/2hp.

If im going to run it at a cooler temp for fermentation than does it matter if the compressor is smaller as it shouldnt run as much anyhow?

You'll need to have the refrigerant evacuated and then refilled by a certified technician. I can't speak to whether the compressor will work on it or not-- the same certified hvac tech should be able to help with that question.
