DIY Bottle Crates?
I was watching Cinderella Man the other day, and there was a scene where they were bringing in a bunch of beer in old wooden crates. It got me thinking...these reused commercial beer boxes where I keep my beer are ugly and are a PITA, especially if they get wet. I have simply a sh*tload of scrap wood in my shop that could be put to good use...
Now, of course, I could (and will) draw up my own plans in Autocad, but does anyone know of or have plans for such a thing? Man, it'd be sweet to have stacking wooden pressure-treated crates with luan dividers. |
I've looked into doing this a little, but with most of my ideas for projects, I never get around to doing it. It sounds like fun though. If you need your brewery name screenprinted on the wooden boxes, just let me know!

That'd be sweet. Still waiting on that logo from my brother and his friend.

You could even use the wood from old wine boxes. (I snagged a few from my LLS)

I work at a wine/beer shop and we have tons of them. Might be something to think about...

Wow, only a month ago.
From that thread: http://www.mullerbrau.com/beercase_album.htm? Edit: Not mine by the way, but nicely executed. |
Those are cool but I would want my sides high enough so that they were stackable given the various sizes of bottles that I inevitably use.

Not to mention all the work that goes into toothing those corners. Ugh. I'd just as soon use mechanical fasteners (corner braces and/or screws) than spend all those hours toothing. I'm not trying to win a beauty contest...just want 'em to look nice. I'd miter and glue them before I toothed 80 corners. |

This is a cool idea and something I've thought of doing myself, but I've decided that my long term brewing will be mostly involve kegging. Now if I can just save up enough scratch to buy some kegs. :D
