Just put the braid on the outside of the tube like I did. It worked a treat.

That is the problem! I can't seem to find a braid large enough to fit over 1/2in copper tube. That is honestly why I made mine the way I did, because it wouldn't fit outside but did fit inside. The only thing I can find is a water heater braided hose, and it's so expensive I could spend the same amout of money and build a false bottom instead. What size copper and what type braided hose did you use Bobby??

Wow, the ones at Lowes here were $25 and above. I did just find a washing machine water line on Lowes.com that looks like it might work. It was $10.00 and it's 6 ft long (which is a plus).. I'm on my way to check it out right now!

I tried something similar to your set-up for my kettle. It worked well for whole hops, but for pellets, not so much.

My Lowes SUCKS! They don't have half of the stuff you can find at other stores across town. All they had was complete water heater "kits" for $27.00.. I found something similar to a water heater hose that was 12" for $11.00.. It worked out well!

I read something on your thread regarding stainless steel hose clamps not having stainless steel screws. How can I tell if mine is stainless or not? I soaked in in starsan for a while.. I figure if it's going to rust starsan will speed up the process so I can tell.. Does that sound about right?

OK! This thing has morphed a couple times since I was here last. I did indeed put a SS braided hose over the the entire dip tube. It worked great! Me being the inventive type I couldn't just leave it at that, so I decided to make a false bottom and integrate them both together... Here's the pics.
