Beer Filter
|
|
I have a light lager that I make on a consistent basis for some parties, the last few batches I notice a slight yeasty taste to it and dont want to wait forever for that to go away and help it clarify quicker.
I wanted to do a DIY Beer Filter.
I found this on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Culligan-RVF-10-Recreational-Vehicle-External/dp/B0010EEVR8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334760071&sr=8-1
Sounds like I need to find a 3/8 to 1/4 flare fitting to get it to work. I know nothing about what filter it comes with. I was thinking at most a 1 micron filter or even a 5 micron to get the yeast out. Can this filter work?

You might be better served by this model.

Also look at this thread I found here doing a search...

There are other threads that look at the subject of filtering from different angles - try a search of your own and see what comes up.

Try Ebay. You'll find people selling them in bulk & cheap on there.

any 10" long, regular water filter will work. you want a filter in the range of 10-25 microns. 50 would even work. just dont go smaller- less than 5 microns will strip flavor from the beer.

Really? I read a thread on filtering a while back, the guy uses a single pass, dual filter setup. 5 micron in the first and 1 micron in the second.

yeast cells are 20-100 microns, hop particles and trub are even larger. no need for smaller. you will just start filtering out protiens and hop oils, which you want in the beer.

I read chill haze can be filtered out at 1 micron, which is why I wanted to go that fine. I can live with hazy beer.
