Default Anyone use this for their electric BK?

Variable transformer - I plan to use a 220V 5500W element in my BK.

I want to control my boil manually. What are the pros and cons of this vs PID controller?

Looks like it should work, it is just expensive.

I had looked at those and tried finding one on eBay for a decent price. One never came up so I just went with a PID and a relay. It will work but like Pol said they are pricey.

You can run a PID in manual mode so that you change the output %.

It's a lot cheaper to use a PID, SSR and sensor. You can get all three for less than $100. The variable transformer for your needs is 25 amps and is $145. The PID, SSR and sensor will be much, much more accurate also. Simply use the PID in manual mode.
