2bbl fermenter insulation
 
i was thinking of a making a jacket for 3 ss fermenters out of this material, http://www.amazon.com/SPONGE-NEOPREN...words=neoprene

is the rigth one for the job, some brawbacks??? any suggestion is helpful

Unless you already own the fermenters, I would consider buying jacketed fermenters and using a glycol system to control temps. 2 barrels is starting to get too big to control fermentation temps using ambient temp unless you have a serious cold room.

Yes i already have the fermenters, they have a coil inside with glycol system, i already test it and went down to lager temps, just wanna insulated them to make the system more efficient. With the material in question will do the trick?

what kind of ambient air and humidity are you looking at? I would think that condensation would absorb into that and make it very heavy and difficult to keep in place. Something like reflectix wouldn't absorb moisture and still give you a barrier

That looks very similar to what the Morebeer conical's use on their systems. They use peltier type coolers and have that black neoprene around it. I and am able to get down to the low 30's in the room.

The down side is that after it starts to age you'll get black flecks everywhere when it starts to break apart. You just have to be careful about it when cleaning and to not get any inside your fermentor.

If you want to do it right and only once then look into Armaflex or K-Flex elastomeric insulation. It is losed cell foam and therefore has a vapor barrier to prevent condensation or moisture from permeating it and can be cut and glued right to the fermenter.
