Default Studying for the exams... and beeer.

I just realized this doesnt work so well. Just started studyign again (EDIT: FOR THE CPA exam) after being lazy for the first 3-years in the industry... need to pass by next July for promotion to "Manager", wipppppy! (although the 25% raise will be nice) apparently being an "EP" (exceptionale performer) in your first couple years isn't enough to reach that next platform, go fig.

Ne-way, I was very dedicated adn hard-core the last two evenings. Put in 2.5-3 hours per night, after 1 beer (12ozzzzz) with dinner. Went well, felt like I was learning something. I was on track to meet the 11 hour per week for 7 weeks (this is just for one part mind you) suggested requirement for this section easily... at least for this week anyway... then...

Today I drowned a 25oz ommegang abbey with dinner, now I'm onto a third (technically if were talkin 12oz booze) belgian and I am starting to study. Might not seem much for some but I got 5'6", 140lb dripping wet... anyway, I'm not druck, but its not easy studying after this many.

Luckily i got a chapter under my belt in the last 2 nighs, so now i'm on review and watching 'lectures' but dayum... this stuff gets REALLY boring after some brews. I like my job during the day. Makes me think, its complex, its a 'respected' job for the most part (unless u are my audit client), and more than pays the bills and supports my hobbies.

But after some nice strong belgian brews, I can't believe I'm in this profession. Bwahahah... I so wish to quit and start a brewpub, but i can only dream

Thanks for listining and any support from any fellow CPAs (or anyone who's taken tough exams in life) would be appreciated. i got a long way to go until next July, but we'll git-er-dun. Then I'll use the nice pay increase and increase flexibility in my job to buy more brewin $hit. yea!

Good luck with studying. I've gone back to school for accounting (be done in December) because its got to be better than working in a factory. I've learned that its best not to drink while studying, but I take my exams online and will often have a beer handy during a test (how many people can say they've done that? ).

The CPA exam is four separate parts, right?

Flyin - Yes, the exam is 4 separate parts. Historically (like over 3-4 years ago) you had to take all 4 parts at one time. I'm not sure how people pulled that off honestly, too much info... Now you can take it one at a time, as long as you pay them the $75-95 registration fee for each time you register. So, they make more money basically, but IMO its worth it b/c you can concentrate on individual parts. I've been in public accounting about 4 years now and I enjoy it, but I've just been slacking b/c we don't really need our CPA requirement fulfilled until we want promoted to "Manager" level. The big difference there is additional pay and more flexibility (ability to work from the home office as opposed to client, etc.). I already 'manage' the day to day audits as a 'senior associate' - I have staff I boss around, I make the 'executive' decision on a day to day basis, etc. so its a good place to be at only 25, but... I want to go up if I'm staying here so its a must I get this done.

Luckily, after the 3 belgians wore off last night, I got in a good hour of studying so I'm on track for the week. Haha. Next time I'll say them for after...

And I'm dreaming about the day (sometime in late 08 early 09) I have all 4 parts passed b/c then I'll be drinking homebrew and belgians until I pass out.

I seriously think that radiologists make thier money by meing able to turn radiographs into those magic eye things.....

Ha, I've just finished my first year of accounting...

Good luck studying for the CPA.

OT: If you don't have your CPA right now, what do you have to be able to audit? Just an undergrad?

Studying again... this time without beer. So, I took my break to dream about beer on HBT.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Yes, you can work in public accounting in the US with just a bachelors degree... although it's hard to get promoted to 'manager' (usually after 4-5 year experience) level without it.

I hear you. In college, I used to have a beer as I wrote a paper, and at the time it helped knock out writer's block. The strategy didn't work when I went for my Master's a couple years later- I need that edge that the alcohol takes away. Now, in my doctoral work, it's generally coffee, water, or maybe some sweet tea. Wrote most of a term paper today, THEN had an Apfelwein.
Good luck with the studies and with the exam. The beer you drink to celebrate passing it will be one of the best you've ever had.
