My ****ing unemployment insurance rant
|
|
2 weeks ago I got laid off (again) after 3 months of being back to work. So I called up the douches to get back on unemployment. I told the guy that I am supposed to be laid off for 2 months tops and that I've started EMT Basic classes. He gave me my certification date (which was Tuesday) and all was good.
Tuesday came around, and I call the damn hotline and certified. The only thing that I did different is that when I was asked if I was attending school I pressed 1 for yes.
Now its Thursday, and I'm supposed to get paid. I call and check the balance on my debit card, and theres nothing. I call up the ****ing unemployment office and the ********** there tells me that I have to bring in my class schedule and my WORK SEARCH.
Now WHAT THE ****? First off, the first douchebag that I spoke with said nothing about having to jump through extra hoops just because I was taking one ****ing class this semester. It would have been awfully ****ing nice if he did, cause I would have had this taken care of by now and have money in my pocket.
Second off, douchebag numero uno also didnt say **** about filling out a work search thing. Hell, I threw my old work search away when I started working again. And how much sense does it make that I even need to look for work. I'm not unemployed. I'M LAID OFF! Theres a HUGE ****ing difference! I EXPECT TO GO BACK TO WORK WITHIN 2 MONTHS! ***********!!!
So now I have to pack up the child, go out to the college, get a copy of my class schedule, drive 40 minutes to the unemployment office, sit in with some of Central Illinois finest examples of white trash (ever been in an unemployment office?) for lord knows how long, then argue with some pompous ass ********** who is lucky enough to have a decent job who probably gets his rocks off denying mother****ers like me over the stupidest ****...like a ****ING WORK SEARCH even though I'm LAID OFF AND EXPECT TO BE BACK AT WORK IN A MONTH AND HALF!!!
I'm so pissed I could ****ing scream.
10:16 a.m. and I already want a ****ing beer.
Talk about some *********** that need to be kicked in a ******* pit

Thanks. I feel a little bit better after ranting.
Ya know, theres a lesson to be learned here. And that is to never ever volunteer extra information to the government unless you benefit from it.
Had a not said anything about being a stupid I'd have $880 in my pocket right now.
Had I just called and basically said "Yeah I'm laid off and not making a ****ing attempt to better my situation, now give me money" I'd be good to go.
What was I thinking? I live in Illinois. Our state government cant work out anything that would actually make an ounce of god damn sense.

It's set up so that those who feel entitled to subsistence without doing anything or providing true information get whatever the hell they need/want. Those who are trying to make things work and rely on government assistance only when they absolutely must are the ones that get shanked. Notice how it's all set up NOT to motivate people to try to take care of their own s**t? Hell, the government will just take care of me! It's so much easier not to pay your mortgage, default, and have the government come to your rescue. I say get the government out of it and let people fend for themselves. It's not their f***ing job anyways. S**t happens in life. Some people get rich; others don't. Some live; some die. It's called the right to the *pursuit* of happiness and the American dream. Not the right to be guaranteed equal things or equal results. But everyone goes through periods of tough times in their life. So making assistance very temporary (such as in your case) makes sense. You get assistance for 6 months max. Then if you still can't make things work, go look elsewhere for money. Wow, I almost just ranted!

Yeah, I totally agree on making things very temporary.
It *supposedly* set up that way now, but once one exhausts their UI then theres another 20 weeks of "Emergency" cash flow there. Which I totally dont like, but maybe thats my independent nature coming out.

On the positive side, I went into the Unemployment office and was totally shocked.
2 other people in there, both dressed nice (I think thats important for some reason) and working on their paper work. The guy behind the desk told me to step on up, and I explained the situation.
The gentleman asks for my class schedule and the conversation went like this:
Him: You're only taking an EMT class twice a week?
Me: Yes, Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30 p.m. to 9:30
Him: so if you weren't laid off this wouldnt get in the way of your job, and it doesnt get in the way of you looking for a job?
Me: Thats correct.
Him: (whispering) I'm gonna go ahead and release your money, you'll have it on Monday. The next time you call and certify, dont even mention that you're going to school. But of course, I never said that
Me: (trying not to laugh) Yes sir. (Whispering now) I kind of caught on to that when I talked to a gentleman on the phone earlier
Him: (giving me a sly wink and talking in normal voice) Looks like everything checks out, you're good to go. Next!
I walked out trying not to laugh. What a cool mother****er. But how ****ed up is that that a IDES worker even knows how ****ed up the system is yet has the balls to work his own way around it by making his own decisions?
I nominate that mother****er for Governor
