Try it in a rauchbier, I bet it would be good. I have no problem with MSG, personally.

All I know is that I hate ranch dressing, but I love anything ranch flavored. I'm pretty damn sure MSG is the correlation.

MSG is the compound responsible for umami, or savory flavor. It was isolated from kelp.
