I would mount it working end down too...
As for people not being able to use it... That's the point. Why would you open up a bottle (unless it's home brew too) with good/great home brew on tap?? If that keg has kicked, then you can remove the opener handle and use it normally.
Maybe make a quick disconnect connection for the faucet and handle.
Of course, I don't think I have enough clearance where my taps are located (freezer top fridge) so I couldn't use that as a handle. I might have to pick one up to see. If it is, I know of a really good welder that I could have put a 3/8" nut onto it for me.
