Well it's true a mortar and pestle is an excellent tool. It requires moving to a separate vessel for serving, thus losing some precious fluids. I think it is best to keep a dedicated muddler just for the turtles. Then the precious juices seep into the wood and make every beverage after the first even more delicious.

Unless you have a dark crystal, of course. Nothing can extract precious living essence like a dark crystal.

My local homebrew supply was out of dark crystals last time I was in. They did tell me however that I could grate the Gelfings and then use a cheese cloth to squeeze out the good bits.
