me... never.

i adopted a stalker who disagreed with me on a blog I posted, he then went through my entire blog, found out what forums I posted on, and other person info on me, then signed up on each forum to harass me (not only me, but brought my family into the harassing and I found this person to be somewhat troubled and was very concerned for my family's safety)... i was involved in a huge legal case and the stalker was a part of the ordeal, luckily I owned the website the blog was on and was able to track his IP address and email the stalker used to sign up on the forums with...

sadly, my websites are now just spam, parked to generate a very small revenue and I'm very sore over the whole mess... I still don't feel safe buying domain names anymore and I feel like this person has ruined that for me...

needless to say, I've kept quiet for the last few years and have no interest in blogging.

Wow, that's a bit of a troubling story. Did the guy go to jail or pay a fine or anything. I mean, how do you detach a stalker other than physically restrin him... or beat him beyond recognition?

I guess I should clarify a bit. I mean when do you blog here - at HBT. Isn't this blogging, or am I showing my lame grasp of pop culture?

This forum has a blog built into it. A true blog is generated by one person and covers a specific topic, or may be the equivalent of an online diary.

Well, no. It's a rather sensitive topic... without going into too much detail, a stalker/harasser can be IP banned from viewing your websites, but that does not block them from seeing who owns the website (WHOis)... also the IP ban only works on the computer they are using at one location, so they could easily go to the local library and look up you site, etc.

Once you IP ban them, and if you have enough proof of harassment with documented occasions and documented conversations (pretty easy since the interwebs is all text) you can then report them to their service provider... typically email ABUSE@serviceprovider.com and the service provider then reviews the documentation and then can cancel service to that person since it violates the terms of use.

In my case, the service provider did cancel their account (or shall I say the person's parents account).

There are no fines, or restraining orders (yet) but I'm sure a much more elevated case could lead to that.

Since I'm on the computer all day, I like to go home and detach myself from this thing, so I rarely post from home.... unless I'm super bored.

but, Work-yes; Home-on occasion; Get away from SWMBO-not really since I'm hardly on the computer at home; After the rest of the house goes to bed-sadly I'm in bed as well

and as far as kicking this douchnozzle's ass, I appreciate it, but I'd rather have nothing to do with this low-life... may he/she rot in their basement stalking people for the rest of their life and changing internet providers every 6 months...

if I've learned one thing from this ordeal, I tend to just avoid arguing over the internet, esp on a forum... everyone has different opinions and I'd rather not argue and fight with someone who will most likely end up a potential stalker... life is short, my opinions are my own, whether they are right or wrong they are just opinions and there will always be someone who sees different from me and that's fine... I have no interest in arguing.
