Default "Band-Aid" off flavor

Why the hell do we know what band-aids taste like? I, for one, know the taste and what to look for if I taste that in a beer. I've heard myself say "Oh, that's got a band-aidy off flavor." But I can't for the life of me remember a time when I tasted a band-aid.

Are you drinking again...?

I know I am.

Maybe it's more that band aid "aroma". We all know what a band aid smells like and that faint sensation we get at the back of our throats when we smell something like that.

Or, it could be the band aid koolaid my mom used to serve us when we were kids.

Now I will say that I have tried to bite off a band-aid when the damn thing wouldn't pull off...

But I think you're really right... it's probably more of the aroma that we think of, and that's the best description.

Up to a third of what we taste comes from the aroma hitting the taste buds in the throat. You are actually "tasting" the smell.

Ponder this: a fart........
