Watching James Bond marathon on G4, and I have to say the ones with Roger Moore have to be the worst of the bunch when it comes to stretching credulity.

Right now it's The Man with the Golden Gun.
That particular bit is on a sign in the super-villain's power generating facility where there's a bunch of tanks with liquid helium. Which, while being quite cold, is most certainly NOT at absolute zero.



Of course still not as bad as Moonraker, where the super-villain has enough money and power to secretly build a space station and launch several shuttles to it, all completely invisible to RADAR. And then when Bond destroys the jamming thingy that is hiding the space station, the forces of good send up a couple shuttles of their own, carrying soldiers armed with laser weapons ala Star Wars.

Haha. I love it when movie producers don't do their research before putting stuff like that in. There's actually two errors in that bit. The part about absolute zero and then there's the fact that criticality in a nuclear reactor is a good thing. That's the normal operating state of a nuclear reactor with small fluctuations between subcritical and supercritical as the reactor (if it's a water cooled reactor) regulates itself. Now prompt critical, that's a whole different ball game.

I'm not sure what is less believable, Moonraker as a whole or the invisible car from Die Another Day.

There are some pretty strange moments and ones that make people who understand the science behind it wince in pain.

After watching most of them and seeing them again a few times I even appreciate the ones that were not as popular. Good way to spend a weekend.

Been watching this most of the day. I watched Octopu$$y and couldn't believe how bad it was. I own all of the bond films on DVD up to the Daniel Craig movies. I might have to break out a few this week. But the Craig series just doesn't seem like Bond to me.

Have you seen the Craig Bonds yet? To me after watching them I think he nailed the role. He is calm and collective at the right times. Just got it right. Also helps he has some of the best scripts of any Bond film since Goldeneye.

I was in a conversation with a guy the other day and he was saying Craig wasn't Bond, then found out he'd never even seen the movies. Watch them.

While I agree completely, I can't watch any of the poker scenes in Casino Royale without cringing a lot. First, Bond just shoves all his chips into onto the table several times, splashing the pot and generally ruining the game like an idiot, which any experienced poker player would never do because you need to be able to count them. But the most egregious problem is that, apparently for dramatic purposes, some of the hands play out of order. There is one hand I recall where the preflop action is clockwise as it should be, and then on the flop the action proceeds counter-clockwise. Also, I like that the guy's "secret tell" is that he cries blood.
