I was just there last Sat picking up my annual bulk grain buy. I didn't know about this yeast. I will have to buy a few the next time I get an order from Rebel. A good house yeast is hard to find, maybe this could be it.

I used this on 2 batches of pale ale - one in primary, one in secondary. Taste tests have been nice in both batches, but flocculation has been terrible in both. Hopefully they will clear out with gelatine and cold crash. They are cloudy mush now, and I don't usually have that problem at all.

I have an IPA in a fermenter now going on three weeks and it seams very cloudy as well. I will be transferring to a better bottle and hope it will clear. If not hopefully gelatin will take care of it.

I brewed a 10 gallon batch of ESB with 250. I pitched an overly large starter and fermented low (53F) during primary. I just kegged the beer after two weeks in secondary. It cleared fine and wound up on the nose at 75% attenuation. After a week in secondary I was wondering if it was going to clear but it dropped right out when it finished up.

I couldn't believe how well this yeast top cropped. On multiple occasions I scraped off a thick layer of yeast that I've now put into a pale ale that I'm fermenting at 65F. Going strong after 5 hours in the fermenter. I'll see how this pale comes out before I make a final judgment, but right now I like the stuff. At 53F the ESB is really clean, I wish the weather had cooperated so that I could have fermented it a bit warmer in the hopes of having some fruitier flavors. Not the yeasts fault though, I need better temp control.

A yeast that makes IPA's more hoppy and Zythos IPA Hop Blend pellets? Total score for us hop-heads... until I did the shipping. Somehow I can ship a video card with an aftermarket copper heatsink to California for about $3 cheaper then you can ship a vial of yeast and 4oz of hops to Kansas.

Sucks being a brewer in Kansas.

Shipping should have come out at $4.99 Super Saver (unless you added an ice pack, those are pretty heavy and bump the shipping)

I talked with the folks at White Labs about a couple people having issues with the flocc on the Rebel Pub yeast and they said it could be a low calcium situation. Adding in some calcium greatly improves flocculation, we haven't had any "clearing" issues on the test batches we've done here. We have had a few people tell us that the yeast responds well to cold crashing.

Cheers,
Tom

Thanks for the tip on the ice pack. After I removed it I got the option for super saver. It's already mid-80's here in KS but it should be fine.

I have had the same trouble too with it not wanting to clear after 2 weeks in the primary and stopping prematurely but a swirl and it gets back to going(I had roughly 100ppm of calcium). Never had this problem with us-05, notty, cultured pac-man. It also seemed like a slow goer to me even at 68 I am just used to us-05 which would be done quick. I still have 2 more jars of the 250 washed I may use again as I heard it gets better after the 2nd or 3rd use.
