Haha, it's next to impossible to get it outside of MN. I have family up there and whenever I visit them, I make sure to bring back as much as possible.

I will say that even though I gave a mediocre review on the Bender, it tasted pretty close to the actual thing. I would say the real Bender had a little more chocolate backbone than mine where as mine was a little more bitter. My favorite from them is still Furious but closely followed by their bitter brewer. I still have never had a chance to try Darkness though. I'll have to plan another "family reunion" whenever that's available again.

Tom

Anyone else brew the furious clone from Northern Brewer? It is not being sold through NB right now, but I can get nearly all of the ingrediants from my LHBS and plan to brew it next week.

I can't get ahtanum from my LHBS, so I plan to either sub centennial or amarillo - any suggestions that would be better (I've never used ahtanum)?

Also, other places have indicated that the base malt for this is all golden promise, but the NB clone splits it between golden promise and pale ale male. Does anyone know if Surly really blends their basemalt for this, or if the change was made so that the kit would be cheaper? I am contemplating just using golden promise as the base malt exclusively.

Thanks for the input. Furious is an absolutely awesome beer, and I if this even comes close I will be thrilled

Surly lists the ingredients used in their beers on their website. I'm pretty sure I remember it saying 2 row and golden promise. More Amarillo with a smidgen of cascade would probably get you close to ahtanum.
