Super cheap Thermowell/Racking cane!!
 
Stop those temperature spikes and keep your brew temp in check with an all stainless thermowell. Bottom compression cap can be taken apart for cleaning, racking beer or if any problems might occur with the probe getting stuck. Carboy cap NOT included.

So the bottom fitting is just a cap. Take it off and you have a racking cane. Leave it on an you can throw your probe of your temp controller in there and you gave a thermowell. You would have to use a blow off tube rather than an airlock.

If you brew you're not stupid and i refuse to call you that.

That's correct but you might still be able to use an airlock on the vent port side depending on the style you have and that it will be tilted. I'm currently using mine and temps stayed exactly where I want them for the first vigorous days. Last time I saw it spike 8 degrees in 8 hours with the probe sitting in a gallon of water. I then taped it to the side of the carboy with insulation and it helped but it still wasn't as accurate as I wanted. A thermowell directly into the fermentor is definitely the way to go.
