The golden mean:

ø = 1/2 + sqrt(5)/2 = 1.61803398874989

obtained by solving 1/ø = ø - 1

i.e. ø^2 - ø -1 = 0

1/ø = ø - 1 = 0.61803398874989

MASONSJAX.... care to tell them how I chose the number since you nailed it and stopped the madness?

It's kinda fun to let everyone guess

I tried to drop a few subtle hints along the way once I realized what was happening. Between those hints and taking a peek at the posts containing chosen numbers should be enough to solve the mystery.

Misspellings, random capitalizations . . . could this post be part of the riddle? I feel like I'm in The DaVinci Code.

Dang! I figured out it wasn't the number, it had something to do with the post. I just couldn't figure out what. Well, I guess we still get to see where this is going.
