New product line - Opinions needed. - (quick kits)
We always have customers that need a batch that is ready to drink quickly for a special occasion.
What do you think of a line of recipe kits that are ready to drink really quickly.
10 days, 7 days ? Of course this would be kegged because carbonation with bottles would defeat the purpose.
This would also need to be dry yeast so it would start really quickly. I know, you can make a started and it will start quickly but it takes time to make a starter. I am trying to shave off every minute.
From the standpoint of a proud brewer, I'm not a fan of the idea. I like to properly age my beers, and even my hefeweizens don't usually hit the tap until at least 21 days.
From a marketing standpoint, you're on to something. I'm almost certain that these kits would get the attention you expect. You could probably craft recipes for American hefe, German hefe, American blonde, English pale, English mild, and MAYBE even a session brown that would be ok after about two weeks.
The kits are not for everyone. We have recipes that are very quick but they are not stated as such. I can make them even quicker for this line of beers. This would help people out if they need a palatible batch in a hurry for a special occasion.
I think it's a great idea! We have people here all the time who are in a hurry to make and drink a batch for a party or gathering. I'm assuming they'd have to be fairly low OG, low IBU beers so they could skip the aging, and would use flocculant dry yeast so they would clear quickly. I think that could definitely fill a gap in the kinds of kits you sell.

I think it is a good idea, but I agree with Yuri too. You don't want to scare off new homebrewers because they are consistently drinking green beer.
I think Mild is a style that fit what you are looking for exactly and a great, approachable session beer too. I brewed a Mild on a Friday, pitching a pint starter (WLP002) that I made while I was mashing. It fermented out in about 3 days and since 002 is such a flocculant yeast, the beer dropped clear by day 6. I crashed cooled it over night and kegged it on day 7. It was ready to drink the next Saturday.
I think you could easily do this with an ordinary bitter. But again, I would recommend the 002 yeast just because it drops out so fast.
I was thinking of using a dry yeast and our Yeast Fuel. This will start the quickest and it will shave 2 days off of the fermentation.
Although one of the posters here shaved 10 hours off his lag time on the liquid yeast using yeast fuel. He made a starter that took a couple days first. These kits don't have time for a starter.
I agree with Yuri_Rage, but I am always looking for something quick. I do not seem to have the patience needed and find myself drinking green beer more and more!!!
This would remedy that situation!!!!! I could do the quick thing and let my good stuff to age properly.
I will serve no beer before its time. let them eat cake!
in other words A lack of planning on their part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

Great idea! I see people posting on this board about that all the time...and I think there are several styles that would lend themselves well to quick turnaround:
Hefe, American Wheat, Blonde Ale, Wit, are ones that come immediately to mind. Pair those with Nottingham dry yeast and your yeast fuel and you've got a 3-5 day fermentation.
I understand what people are saying about consuming an beer when it is ready and never before. BUT...I enjoy my beer ALL THE TIME. Before it's ready, when it's ready, and after it has hit it's prime. I like beer...beer is easy to make, fun to drink, and is a wonderful tradition. Especially with wheat beers, as soon as it is carbonated, I'm drinking it. If I want to age some...then I do, simple as that!

Exactly the point. When someone comes in and buys a large beer, I always ask them "What are you going to drink while this one is aging?" I usually sell another kit because people don't think about it and they will have to go without beer if they don't buy another.
