Just ordered $100 worth of stuff myself and can't wait to see the box tomorrow. I have always had a fast response and when I wanted to order the kits they sell minus the hops they did it for me. (had a lot sitting in the freezer from left overs)

Customer service does a lot for me and I'm willing to spend a few extra bucks to get it. (especially since the shops around here sell stuff for $$$$$$)

Oh, ok, that's too bad. I guess the online stores that do sell them at or close to at the cost are hoping people will buy a nice big bag of grain to go with it. I understand, I just like your service so much I had to try.

I'm new to brewing, purchased a kit and first extract recipe in the store just this past weekend - the service was excellent and they were very happy to answer some very basic questions I had, even when I called up the next day.

I'm impressed. I just placed an order 2 hours ago and I just got notification that my order has already shipped! I wasn't expecting it to go out until at least next week. Thumbs up to AHS!

Took 50 1/2 hours from my paypal payment to delivery this week. Seems all the pressure is kicking them up a notch.

Because I responded on another thread about AHS, I wanted to add to this thread too.

Last week someone had a question about receiving poorly crushed grains from AHS. I had received grains at the same time and sure enough they were not crushed correctly. I mentioned it on the thread mainly so Forrest would know there may be an issue with the equipment and/or the operator. I wasn’t terribly upset about the grains nor would it have caused me not to order from them again.

Forrest private messaged me about the issue I had mentioned on the thread. I told him that it wasn’t a terrible problem. I have a Corona and only ordered the base grains crushed to save my arm a bit.

Forrest wanted to make it right. Very soon I had an email from AHS with a credit code to make up for the error. I have since placed another grain order from AHS for 3 more batches. I really can’t say enough good things about their customer service. Any company that takes such good care of their customers will continue to get my business.
Thank you Forrest!

I placed my first order with AHS last week and paid for regular UPS shipping so it would get to me by Friday for weekend brewing. I asked that the grains be crushed finer than normal or run through twice since I batch sparge and want better efficiency since I am not so worried about a stuck sparge.

The grains arrived, packed very nicely, on Friday as expected. The crush was perfect and my efficiency went up from my previous 2 AG mashes. Was very happy with my order and will order from again.

Now for suggestions. First, the reason I had not ordered until now was your hop selection wasn't as good as I could find elsewhere. I paid more for hops, but I wanted specific varieties and you didn't carry them. Even on this last order I got a hop that was not my first choice. So I have checked about 5 times and never had you had all the hops I wanted, while another big online retailer did. I know they are available, so feel free to get them and charge and arm and a leg if you have to...I'll pay the few extra bucks for what I want.

Second, carry the Barley Crusher. Even if you mark it up a few bucks there would be a good chance I would order it from you with some ingredients. In fact, someone asked where I wanted a gift certificate from and I said that "other place" (NB) because they do carry it (and they also mark it up a bit). That could have been a sale for you.

Regardless, these are just suggestions and like I said, I was extremely happy with my order and will continue to order from you in the future. (But I will always check a couple of the other major sites just to keep everyone honest)

We have adjusted our Barley Crusher to have a much better crush. What you received is our normal crush.

As far as the hops go, we have a pretty large selection and I have purchased every hop I can through normal channels. I assume you know about the hop shortage coming up. Which hops are you interested in that I do not have available?

I will look into carrying the Barley Crusher. Thanks for the heads up.

Forrest

Forrest,

I've never tried, and I always hadn't done it before because I figured it was a hassle, but if I ordered a kit would you be able to package the grains seperately if I asked? All the kits I have ordered in the past (which is probably 7 or 8), have come with the grains mixed together. It's really not a problem per se, but as a relative novice I would like to taste the different grains if I could and know what each one tastes like. It's never stopped me from ordering from you in the past, it's just something I've thought about once or twice in the past and never bothered to ask.

edit: and by seperately, I meant package each type of grain individually instead of all of them in one large package, in case that wasn't clear.

You can ask in the comments section. We can't do it every time because it would cost me a lot more money. The labor involved in bagging it all seperately would cost me an extra $3-5 per kit in labor and bags. I am sure you understand.
