Barley Crusher question...
|
|
Do you want the best price but you have to wait for the manufacturer to ship it? Could be up to 15 days.
Or, do you want it fast and want to pay more? We can ship from our stock and it will get to you quick. Although, it has to ship to us (shipping charges) and then ship to you (shipping charges). So I have to charge more. It costs me $15 to ship to me and then $15 to ship to you. Or I can ship straight from the manufacturer and pass the savings on to you.
Or do you want an option?
Do I raise the price and give a discount for dropshipping and having to wait? Or, do I keep the low price and add a rush service. If I add a rush service price, people will point out that other stores dont charge a rush service. But they wont point out that mine is less expensive. They will want the lower price without the rush charge.
Meanwhile I make about $5 on each just to cover the admin of carrying the product. I am trying to give the best price on this item. On this item time equals money. If you can wait it will be cheaper.
What do you think?
Forrest

I would wait to save a little money.
But if the wait is over 2 weeks and a little extra would get me UPS ground, I would just spend the extra money.

Personally, I would rather see it listed with a discount for drop shipping and waiting longer. If I were buying it from you (or any homebrew store) I would expect that it was in-stock (unless indicated otherwise) and ready to go, just like any other item I ordered. If I had to wait for the manufacturer to ship it to me I would just order it directly for them and cut out the middleman unless you were somehow offering me a substantially better price than the manufacturer was.
I like the idea of having the option though and to me that, as well as this thread, shows a vendor who is really thinking about the best way to serve their customers and I appreciate that.

I just bought one from you a couple weeks ago and it arrived just a day or two after the grain and yeast and other items you shipped from your store. I had no issue waiting the extra couple of days and was actually surprised at how quickly I received it considering I knew it was shipping direct from the mfg. If that is pretty typical then I say leave it as is and provide the "rush" option. As long as the reason for the rush option is clearly stated I think most won't take issue with it. If people point out that others don't do that then they haven't done their research.

I would like to see both options available.
For some, time = money
Some are willing to pay more for quicker shipping; others would like to save a little.
As for me, I'm moving into my new house in a couple weeks, and a BC from AHS will be one of my first purchases.

There is no middle man mark up. I sell them cheaper than Barley Crusher sells them for.

I think that having a menu option available to drop ship is a great idea, frees up your warehouse space a little too.

I'm on a pretty strapped brewing budget and a grain mill is definitely on my wish list. So most often I'll welcome the wait if I can save a few bucks and stretch my budget a little further. If I'm only gonna be saving $5 or so, I'd rather get it quicker. But if I'm going to save $10 or more, I'll definitely wait.
I don't know the best way to advertise it. Speaking for myself...I probably wouldn't look at it that closely if it were not listed at a substantially lower price than your competitors. So I likely wouldn't get far enough into the details to discover that I could get it for a price that I'm willing to pay.
Just my $.02
