In for free shipping for stuff to make 5 gallons of American Wheat/Rye and 5 gallons of Special Bitter.

Thanks, Forrest. You won me over by sending me that free sample of yeast nutrient when I'd never even ordered from you, but the free shipping coupon didn't hurt either.

Default AHS Rocks!

I just thought I'd share that Austin Homebrew Supply (http://www.austinhomebrew.com/) just gave me an incredible deal on grain. I shopped around and their pricing was the best (even lower than my LHBS).

Forrest, I can't believe you shipped me 52 lbs of grain and supplies for free. I halfway expected you to come back and charge me shipping. Thanks a ton!

It's business practices like this that will keep me coming back for more. I've told my brewing buddies here at work about it, and I'll share it with whomever asks. I couldn't recommend you guys any higher.

I showed your pricing to my LHBS guy, and he just can't compete, even after shipping (well except maybe on carboys, kegs, and other largish items). Now if only I could figure out how to get yeast from you in the summer! LHBS charges 9 bucks for a pack of Wyeast... crazy!

Ok I gotta ask......

Your bulk grains Forrest, you are selling 40lbs instead of a full 55lb bag? Really? Whats that about

40lb vs 55lb was part of a larger discussion on Bulk Buys, located here: http://www.homebrewtalk.com//showthread.php?t=45899 - Basically their wine kit box is heavy duty, and happens to hold 40#. I'll let Forrest chime in too though, that's an old discussion.

I do something very similar. Our Dry pet odor remover used to come in a 40# bag dropped into a box. We had problem with damages, and it's now sold in a 30# pail (i.e. 5 gallon bucket). Long term customers think it odd that we now sell 3/4 of a bag...

The downside is that it increases our packaging costs and increases the shipping costs somewhat for bulk buyers.

Why not just sell the whole bag though? Why take the time to put it in a box and then sell 40lbs for more than what a 55lb bag goes for?

I'm with you... I'm much rather buy it by the sack - but am not complaining about the 40# boxes.

I used to sell 50/55lb bags on the website and they didn't sell. I lowered the amount of grain so that I could use the perfect box we were already using for wine kits and that happened to hold 40lbs.

The 50lb bags didn't sell but the 40lb box at the same $ per pound sells really fast. When customers tell me I am doing something right by buying it frequently, I am not going to argue. If I change it to 50lb bags the sales would fall off drastically.

So I did the same with DME. I used to list a 50lb bag but now that it is 40lb we sell a lot more.

I'm just sayin'

Forrest

I could kick myself, I was planning on ordering this past weekend using the coupon but my internet went down . I ordered anyway on Monday.
