These measure exactly 15" in diameter so see where that falls on the bottom of the keg.

So, 1st bummer encountered with the false bottom. It looks great, well made, fits in the keggle just fine...BUT
I've discovered that my valve hole was drilled far too low to use the brewhardware dip tube for a center pickup. Everything lines up except the bulkhead wants to be about 1.5" higher.
I was attempting to install in my existing BK since I currently have a cooler MT. Looks like I will need to get a new keggle before I can give the false bottom a run. Time to hunt craigslist...

I received mine yesterday as well. The package looks like it went through hell. I don't believe any damage was done to the false bottom but i'm not 100% sure. Some of the issues I have with the false bottom could be from the open packaging... The handle looks like a bent washer welded on there, I assume this is not damage, but in fact design. Fine with it. The entire false bottom was covered with this semi-hard grayish black substance. I don't know if this is a byproduct of the welding or what, but I had to chip tons of it off the false bottom and it made a terrible mess.
I have not installed the false bottom into a keggle yet. I will try and do this on Wednesday. It looks like it should work fine, but you might want to work on the finish and presentation of these things...
vs my NorCal false bottom I do like that the 2 surfaces don't hinge exactly in the middle as far as finger pinching

Wow, someone did a number on that shipment. Mine was very well packaged and arrived perfectly fine. It looks like your postman may have decided to drag it behind the truck for a mile or two... maybe it even caught fire a bit?

Mine arrived yesterday. Packaging was pretty beat up as well, but no black crud. FB was in perfect shape, thanks to some high quality construction. I installed FB, BH diptube, and weldless bulkhead by myself in 15 minutes.
Bobby_M, sending you an email now with some pics.

I have no idea what that black crud could be but I can assure you it didn't leave the shop looking like that. I did ship two of them out in a flat rate envelope and I did have concerns that it was underpackaged. I printed out the postage before I realized the fit wouldn't allow for a lot of protective wrapping. The following four were packaged in medium flat rate boxes that allowed for much better protection.
What the heck could that coating have been?
Yes, the pull ring is a bent washer welded on. I can certainly put more effort into a bigger handle but for what it's used for, I wasn't sold on the idea of cutting and pressbreaking a bunch of flat bar. It's just to have something to grab on to. I'm curious what all the other beta testers have to say about the pull ring.
I'm glad Mors brought up the topic of finger pinching. This is my first time actually handling hinged false bottoms both as a user and builder (I previously notched my keg to fit an unhinged FB). Let me just warn everyone right now; Whether it's mine or someone elses product... BE CAREFUL. Keep your fingers and all other skin away from the joint when you close this thing. If you screw up, it's like getting grabbed by a pair of vice grips that had teeth welded on.
The only way to avoid that closing edge is to run the hinge literally from edge to edge so that the hinge fills the gap and the two pieces of perf never really close. I don't think that's the best thing to do so yeah, be careful.

I hope there's a prize for figuring this out. I think it's melted plastic. Looks like there was some serious abrasion on the outside of the envelope and if there's any plastic coating on there (or in the packaging materials and padding), it would make sense that it could have melted and heat-bonded to any exposed areas of the false bottom. You can see the black sooty impressions in the one picture that exactly match the bottom pattern, so I'd put my bet on melted packaging.
Mine came in a box (and I also ordered a single fitting), wrapped in paper. It's shiny and clean.

Geez, it looks like they drug the package thru some spent firewood or something....WTH happened to that thing between NJ and Michigan? Gotta love the insanity of "Black Friday Weekend" - apparently even the USPS is stressed out
