Default Yeast question......

I got home from work this evening around 8 p.m. On my front porch was my package from Austin Homebrew Supply. I was excited until I took out the yeast packet. The ice pack that I had included as an option was hot. Not sure how long the yeast had been hot but with the temps the way they are, it's probably been a good while. I've since transferred it to the icebox but I'm worried that the heat has damaged the yeast. Should I be worried??

Also, I order the Honey Blonde kit and it came with grains, malt and one oz of hops. Should I refridgerate everything until I'm ready to brew(Sunday)??

Thanks.

And finally, come the memory cells. These are tough SOBs to kill.

The yeast is probably ok- it's happened to me when I've ordered liquid yeast. If in doubt, make a starter to ensure viability before you brew (which I recommend anyway!). The rest of the stuff will be fine until Saturday. Keep the hops in the fridge (or freezer if it'll be longer) and the grain cool and dry.

Definitely make a starter. It's unlikely that the entire 100 million cells got killed, but depending on how long the yeast was exposed to high temps, you'll have some CPR to do to boost your cell numbers.
