Do it all the time. as a matter of fact, take a look at ridx the stuff that's used to clean your septic system. Looks just like Dry brewers yeast. (may be because that's what it is)
So, if its good for your septic system, it's going to be good for the compost pile.

I've got a customer that has 30+ rentals. He gives them basic bread yeast to flush for septic treatment instead of ridx. He swears it is the same thing.
