Default Wyeast starter tomorrow afternoon, smack today?

This will be my first time using a Wyeast smack pack WLP001. I read the starter guide on mr. malty I found by searching the forum here.

I am just not sure when to take the pack out of the fridge and smack it. I plan on making the starter tomorrow afternoon, so if I take it out now and smack it will it be ok at room temp that long? Sorry to ask a question that is silly, but I want to make sure I dont ruin the yeast. Thanks!

Not a problem.

That should be fine. The starter will take off fast!

Depending on how fresh the yeast is, it may take a bit longer. Take it out, warm to room temp, then smack it. Let it go overnight and add to your starter in the am. Should be good to go then.

A good rule of thumb is that it will take one day for each month past the made date.

Don't even bother smacking it. Just open it up and put into your starter.
