Default Would this work?

Could I put the hops that the recipe calls for in mash bags, or some sort of bag, and then remove the bag from the wort when its done boiling. That way there is less for me to strain out of the wort when pouring into the carboy?

Yes. They actually market bags as hop bags for this very purpose.
