where to buy iodine for starch conversion?

Can I buy iodine at the pharmacy, and if so, is it the right stuff to use for an effective starch test?

Iodine tincture usp. I got mine at CVS its the only kind they sold and it works for me.

any homebrew supply place should have it.

I know my LHBS has it, otherwise I'd think a CVS, Walgreens or other large pharmacy should have it.

I just checked Shoppers Drug Mart (Canada). They sell small vials of tincture of iodine at $3. Hopefully it'll do the trick.

FWIW I have only used the Iodine tincture usp from CVS. I imagine that the undiluted iodine colors would appear stronger. However my conversion test follow what Noonan describes in his "New Brewing Lager Beer" book (cir 1996):
"Blue-black indicates the presence of native starch (amylose); deep mahagony/red-brown evidences gelatinized starch (amylose fragments and large a-limit dextrins), faint red simple a-limit dextrins. A faint mahagony to violet-reddish reaction denotes a mix of small dextrines. Total mash saccrification (a solution of some small a-limit dextrins with maltotriose, maltose and simple sugars) causes no change in the yellow color of iodine"
