Where to buy?
I live in about 5min outside Ottawa, Ontario. That I know of, there's only one good LHBS in Ottawa, http://www.defalcowines.com/.
Their in store stock looks ok to me, but I'm a newb so I don't know what's missing. Should I be ordering things online? |
Online is almost always cheaper, especially if you can find a discount coupon.
Northern Brewer and Midwest Supplies are two of the best online stores IMHO Some LHBS are good and cheap; others, like mine, screw you on the price and charge 2-3x for the same items you can find online |
In Canada ordering online gets pretty pricy due to the shipping fees, although because your in Ontario it may be substantially cheaper. In NS if I even want a packet of yeast from an online store its going to cost $20 in shipping.
Check this link out for some great Canadian online shops. http://www.canadianhomebrewers.com/viewforum.php?f=24&sid=6c34e2a296c311ba33c89ca6c71 4968a Couple more for ya: http://www.hopdawgs.ca/ http://homebrew-supplies.ca/viartshop/ But to answer your question that store looks like it has more than what you need as a beginner. The store that I got my start from didn't have yeast other than what came with the kit, no hops, no star san or iodopher. Really all I got was the beginners equipment and a cheap kit and kilo extract kit to start with. That store looks great. Cheers :mug: |
ok, thx for the links. So at this point, I could probably just assemble a list of ingredients and see if they carry them and if they do, I'll check their prices against the online stores. Thx again!

I just thought I would share, there are a few recipes on the site for my LHBS.

At my local brew store it's $12 per pound of dry extract and it's all expired! What a deal :p After about a year of supporting them I couldn't take it anymore and searched for an online dealer with free shipping. WWW.beergrains.com has free shipping for ordered of $100 or more and is 5% off for another day or two. And it's 10.50 for 3 pounds of extract! Less than 1/3 the price. Yesterday i put an order together for 3 different brews and some Star San. Can't wait until it arrives. :ban: I couldn't even get Star San locally and if I could it would be expired(even if it's not possible) and cost $300.

I was looking at that store Uno, and their $100 free shipping deal. Did the deal cover if you bought bulk hops? If not how did you get to the $100 mark?
