All grain:
You mix crushed grain with hot water and the starches convert to sugars. You separate the grain from the sweet liquid. Now you have wort. Then you boil & add hops.
Extract brewing:
Someone else makes the wort (crushed grain + hot water, separate grain from sweet liquid) for you and condenses it. You just add water, boil, and add hops
Partial mash:
You go half and half. Part extract, part you make the wort.

Outstanding. I'm sure it'll be great because you brewed it.

Are you sure that you did an all grain brew? In another post, you talked about not boiling water that you added to your wort. An all grain brew involves taking several pounds of grain and a few gallons of 150°F water and letting it mash for an hour. Then you take heated water at a prescribed temperature and sparging (washing) the grains, then you go boil the wort for an hour and add your hops as necessary.
There's also extract brewing using specialty grains. This is where you steep about a pound of grains for 30 minutes, like you're making tea. Then you put in extract, boil, add your hops. Depending on the instructions you're following, you're told to add water after you're done brewing.

You probably had steeping grains. Did you put grains in a bag and steep them in hot water followed by raising the temperature to a boil where you added syrup?
