yeah, i'm going that direction from now on. My first brew was 1/25 gal in a 2 gal bucket and didn't worry about it (mainly because i couldn't see it) but man, i'm glad the community talked about the blow off or my wife would have probably put a stop to the brewing, lol

Looks like its going to be a great beer. The blowoff tube is a must with that little headspace in a beer that strong, so good catch! Happy sippin!

Me too for anything over 1.06 or so. It's not worth wondering whether you're going to come home to a beer detonation.

I've had ales around 1.046 blow off like moby dick before. It seems to depend on initial ferment temp & quality of yeast pitch.

It was bad enough when the dme clumped up in the last addition and was hard to get the clumps out.
The 1 gal batch I did before was much easier

Did you take out DME clumps? that will affect OG and FG.
If you pre-mix your DME with cool or cold water first it mixes better, little to no clumping.
Cheers

I use a plastic paddle when slowly stirring in the DME. Makes dissolving the clumps a bit easier.

With the arrogant bastard recipe, it doesn't call out for dry hopping, should I skip it and bottle how it is when the time comes, or should I dry hop? If I dry hop, which would complement chinook and cascade?

I didn't take out the clumps, they dissolved before it was done boiling, but it was a pain in the ass.
With pre mixing dme, I only want to use enough to make like a paste right?
