Default What Happened To The Arrogant Bastard Clone?

Here's the recipe I was given, though I changed the 0 min hop addition to a 5 min addition:

5 gal yield

6 lbs pilsen LME (flame out)
1 1/2 lbs Bavarian wheat DME
1 1/2 lbs crystal 120
1 lb light DME (flame out)
1.4 oz Chinook (11.1%) @ 90 mins
1.3 oz Chinook @ 30/5 mins
WLP 001

Hydrometer was broken. Targeted info:
1.066/1.016
19* SRM
83.5 IBU's
6.7% ABV
I usually get about 0.005 additional points of gravity and make room for it.

I gave it a month to ferment, and 5 weeks to condition, plus 1 week in the fridge.

It has a very similar taste, but the hops seem quite mellow. It's good, but not arrogant enough.

Hmm. Looks interesting. I've done an AB clone a few times and I feel like it's spot on. And it includes some special B in the grist. I'll DI it out and post it.

The flavor itself seems fairly close. It's as though the hop bite was mellowed out.
I'll have to give this a try as I really love AB!
Thanks!

No problem. I almost wanna suggest mashing at a little higher, like 156 to improve the mouthfeel. Give it more of a full body

I did an extract version of this that is very close to HellBound's adding some biscuit malt:

50% 5lbs Muntons Light Dry Malt Extract
30% 3lbs Munton's Amber Malt Extract
5% 0.5lbs Special B Malt
5% 0.5lbs Aromatic Malt
5% 0.5lbs Caramunich I
5% 0.5lbs Biscuit Malt

90 mins 1.0oz Chinook 11.8%
60 mins 1.0oz Chinook 11.8%
45 mins 0.5oz Chinook 11.8%
15 mins 0.5oz Chinook 11.8%
Flameout 1.0oz Chinook 11.8%

Dry Hopped 1.0oz Chinook 11.8%

Even with all the Hops, I added about 3cc of Isomerized Hop Extract. The taste was pretty damn close to spot on. I think I'll make my next attempt all grain.

I like the idea of the 90 min boil. I'll probably do that next time.
