It's antiseptic. You could also use water with a sanitizer in it like idophor. Helps cut down on possible infection sources while your yeast farts.

Replace the Vodka in your airlock with StarSan and drink the Vodka.... I think that will turn out better

I´m with the vodka in the fermenter I get free bottles of vodka every other week and I´m not a vodka man so for the airlocks it is.

I've used vodka in the airlock for awhile now. Smirnoff for the airlock and Imperia for drinking.
In the rare case there is some small amount that makes it from the airlock into the beer, I'd rather have a little vodka with my beer instead of sanitizer in the beer.
