You're right rico, it doesn't hurt the beer, but if it's in the airlock for 4 weeks it probably won't be effective anymore... especially if you're using tapwater. There are a lot of threads here that discuss the pH of starsan solution and whatnot. If you're going to use it for an airlock it should really probably be made from distilled or Reverse Osmosis water. Maybe it's an unnecessary precaution, but if you're going to go through the trouble of using star san water for the airlock, then you may as well ensure that it's going to last.

knappster: My Star San solution is always made from RO water, and it has to be made that way. Our well water will immediately turn Star San the color of skim milk (the water is way too alkaline to be used with SS).
