Rod, a very full 6 gal carboy will yield about 45 1/2 L bottles, roughly pints... which I think is 16 oz right? (I work in Liters). If this is the case, you need something like 60 12 oz bottles. But I think most batches are a little less. That's a max for a 6 gal (23 L) carboy. If you have 5 gal, which is about 19 liters, then you'll need something more like what you have (48).
It's nice to have some bigger and smaller bottles in each bottling. Then when company comes, you can just drag a big pop-bottle full of brew out.
